The 4 gallon compostable trash bags that compost, not pile up

Not every bin in the house is a kitchen can. The bathroom, the bedroom, the home office, and the countertop compost bin go through liners too, and those are almost always regular plastic. These bags handle those small jobs, then compost instead of sitting in a landfill for centuries. Fill it, pull the drawstring closed, and toss the whole thing.

How it works

1. Fill. Load the bag with bathroom, bedroom, or office waste, small kitchen trash, or food scraps.

2. Pull. Pull the drawstring closed and lift the bag out by the tie.

3. Toss. Add it to a backyard compost pile or a curbside compost cart, or send it to a commercial composter.

Plant-based ingredients

Cornstarch

The plant-based base of the bag. It is the same starch that thickens gravy, and it breaks down completely in a compost pile.

Polylactic Acid

Made from plant sugars in corn and sugarcane. It acts like plastic in everyday use, then breaks down under composting conditions with no microplastic left behind.

Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate

This one comes from petroleum, but unlike regular plastic it composts. It adds the strength that cornstarch and PLA cannot give on their own, and it breaks down in the composting conditions BPI and TUV certify for.

Why switch to compostable trash bags

The kitchen bag gets all the attention, but the bathroom, the bedroom, and the home office run through liners too, and those are almost always petroleum plastic that never really goes away. Swap them for compostable trash bags that break down in a backyard pile or a commercial composter, and every small bin in the house stops sending plastic to the landfill.

Before you line a small bin

What size bin do Plastno 4 gallon bags fit?

4 gallon bins. The bags are 17 inches wide by 19 inches tall, which fits most bathroom wastebaskets, bedroom and nursery bins, under-desk and office bins, small kitchen cans, and countertop compost bins. Each roll contains 30 bags. Shelf life is about 12 months from production, so store the roll somewhere cool and dry.

Do these bags have a drawstring?

Yes. The drawstring pulls the bag closed and doubles as a handle, so you never have to knot a bag of wet scraps by hand. It is the same drawstring we put on our 13 gallon roll, sized down. Every bag on the roll has one.

What are Plastno 4 gallon compostable bags made from?

Cornstarch, PLA, and PBAT. Cornstarch and PLA come from plants. PBAT comes from petroleum, but unlike regular plastic it breaks down in compost. The blend is BPI certified for commercial composting and TUV certified for backyard composting. The roll ships in a plastic-free paper sleeve inside a curbside-recyclable cardboard box, with paper-based tape and water-based inks.

Can I use these for kitchen food scraps?

Yes. 4 gallon is a common size for small compost bags, countertop compost bins, and small kitchen cans. Drain excess liquid from wet waste before you pull the drawstring closed so the bag stays strong, and empty the bin every 7 to 10 days. The bag composts along with the scraps, in a backyard pile or a commercial facility.

How do these compare to the 13 gallon Plastno bags?

Same material, different size. Both are cornstarch, PLA, and PBAT at 1 mil thick, with a drawstring and 30 bags per roll. The 13 gallon roll is 24 inches wide by 28 inches tall for standard kitchen bins. This 4 gallon roll is 17 inches wide by 19 inches tall for the smaller bins in any room.
